Cognitive Hypnotherapy

For over two hundred years the techniques of hypnosis have been used in medicine to treat a wide range of physical, psychological and emotional disorders. It has also long been recognised that hypnosis may successfully be combined with other approaches and techniques in counselling and psychotherapy.

Cognitive Hypnotherapy recognise that there are many ways of looking at how the mind works. Some people or instance take the view that the way we look at the world and how it treats us mainly effects our thoughts and actions. Others believe that we are mostly driven by our “subconscious” which is taken to be the store or all our past experiences and emotions. Whatever theory of the mind is applied, Cognitive Hypnotherapy can be integrated with NLP techniques to help bring about positive change.

Hypnosis customarily creates a deeply relaxed state in which mental stress and body tension are reduced. In this relaxed state, the mind is usually more open to the process of change. As such, client and therapist can safely work together, using an agreed approach to enhance mental, physical and emotional well being and enabling you to let go of old habits and emotions that are preventing you living the life you want to live. Whilst in a deeply relaxed state you are still generally aware of your surroundings and can choose to come out of hypnosis at any time.

NLP

NLP stands for Neuro Linguistic Programming and in simplistic terms is a set of models, skill and techniques for thinking and acting effectively in the world. This is done by effecting three key processes:

Neuro: How our sensory systems perceive the outside world and provides mechanisms for responding to it.

Linguistic: How our language determines the kinds of models of the world we create.

Programming: This is how we tend to habituate our behaviour. In other words, how we allow our unconscious to run much of our day to day habits and activities. For example, how often do we consciously think how to drive a car? Or how is it we cannot control our automatic reactions to something we a phobic about?

Therapy using NLP techniques results in changes in belief systems and changes in the mind and the way of being in the world. In a nutshell, NLP is the art and science of excellence.
