Manage Stress
The Nature Of Stress
If it wasnt for stress we wouldnt be here today. If we are in a situation which we perceive as threatening, our bodies respond with a series of physical changes induced by brain chemicals which are instinctive reactions to danger.
Imagine a million years ago you wake up in your snug cave and whilst stretching at the cave entrance notice that a new rock has appeared about 10 yards away. When you notice that that rock is in fact a sabre tooth tiger looking for its breakfast your mind immediately responds by stimulating the release of adrenaline to give you instant energy, increasing your heartbeat to pump your muscles full of oxygen and focusing your mind so that you can decide to either fight or run (flight).
Unfortunately whilst our brains have developed over the years there is still a part of it, the hypothalamus, that still lives in that cave
What this means is that there are modern day stimuluss that are perceived by our prehistoric minds as threats and we react in a way that results in stress.
